Selecting a translation version to update

Skip Navigation Links| Related Help Topics | Additional Information |

When you update a translated file and you work with a page group that includes versioning and translations, you have the opportunity to select the item version to translate.

Use the Available Translations section in the Add Item Wizard to select an item version to update. Select the most recent default-language item version or any translated item version in the current (non-default) language.

The Available Translations section displays under the following conditions:

For example, imagine that versioning is enabled, English is the default language, and you have the following versions:

When you add a new French version, this dialog displays on the Edit Item screen in place of the Item Version Control section. The drop-down list includes V7: English, as the latest default-language version, as well as all the French versions of the item (V2, V3, V4, V6).

When you add a new German version, this dialog displays with a selection list that includes V7: English, as the latest default-language version as well as all the German versions of the item (V3 and V4).

If the latest French or German version you are updating is V7, this dialog does not display. This because the latest French or German version you are updating is synchronized with the default-language version (English V7), and you cannot provide a version of a translation that is later than the current default-language version. However, you can edit the translation and overwrite its latest version, keeping the same version level.
