Item Attributes

Field Description
Name

Edit the name of this portlet instance. This is used when referring to this portlet from a Java page.

Note: This name must be unique within the current page.

Display Name Edit the display name of this portlet instance. By default, the display name of this portlet instance is the display name of the portlet.
Display Options

Edit the display option for this portlet instance:

  • Portlet Displayed Directly In Page Area: The portlet is displayed directly in the page area. This is the default. If you select this option, you can also specify a maximum height (in pixels) for the portlet in the Limit portlet height to field. If the contents of the portlet exceed the specified height, scroll bars are displayed in the portlet so that users can view the entire contents.
  • Link That Displays Portlet In Full Browser Window: A link to the portlet is displayed on the page. When a user clicks this link, the portlet is displayed in the full browser window, replacing the current page.
  • Link That Displays Portlet In New Browser Window: A link to the portlet is displayed on the page. When a user clicks this link, a new browser window is opened to display the content.

Notes:

  • For the second two options, the link is displayed only if a Link - Display Name (or Link - Display Name (durable)) attribute is included in the region.
  • Page portlets are always displayed directly in the page area, they cannot be displayed as links. Only the Limit portlet height field is available for page portlets.
  • The Display Options attribute does not appear for portlets on a mobile page.
Portlet Caching

Select Cache Portlet at the System level to cache this portlet at the system level. Caching the portlet at the system level places a single copy of the portlet in the system cache for all users. Consequently, all portlet personalization options are disabled. Also, access privileges for this portlet will not be enforced. Therefore, it is important that you do not select this option if this portlet includes sensitive data or other information that you do not want to display to all users.

If you do not select this option, the caching-level of the page that includes this portlet is used instead:

  • If the page that includes this portlet is cached at the user level, this portlet is cached at the user level. With user level caching, this portlet can be personalized and access privileges can be enforced for the portlet.
  • If the page that includes this portlet is cached at the system level, this portlet is cached at the system level.

Notes:

  • Portlets cached at the system level are run as the public user; only public data is shown. Therefore, portlets that do not contain public data (for example, the Recent Objects portlet or the External Applications portlet) will not be displayed.
  • If this portlet's Web Provider indicates system level caching for the portlet, this portlet uses system level caching. In these cases, the Portlet Caching option will not appear.

Select Cache Portlet for [ ] minutes and enter the duration (in minutes) for which content from this portlet instance is cached in the OracleAS Portal file system cache. Setting this option can improve page performance as the portlet is not contacted on each request.

Notes:

  • If portlet content changes within the specified time period, the portlet may display stale content. This may be acceptable in some portlet applications, where a faster page response is deemed more important.
  • If the portlet also specifies an expiry period for its content, the longer expiry period is used.
  • Setting this option overrides any validation-based caching that the portlet may specify.
Description Enter up to 2000 characters of descriptive information about the portlet instance.
Category Choose the category to which you want the portlet instance to belong. A portlet instance can belong to only one category.
Basic Search Keywords

Enter keywords, separated by a single space, that describe the portlet instance. Try to enter words that a user might use when trying to locate this portlet instance during a search operation.

Notes:

  • Do not separate keywords by pressing the Return or Enter key.
  • Enclose multiple-word keywords in single quotes, for example, 'weight lifting'.
Perspectives

Select the perspectives to which you want the portlet instance to belong. Unlike categories, you can choose more than one perspective for a portlet instance.

To assign a perspective to this portlet, select the perspective in the Available Perspectives list and click the Move Right arrow to move it to the Displayed Perspectives list. To assign the portlet to all perspectives, click the Move All Right arrow.

To unassign a perspective, select the perspective in the Displayed Perspectives list and click click the Move Left arrow to move it to the Available Perspectives list. To unassign all perspectives, click the Move All Left arrow.

Use the move up and move down arrows to determine the order that the perspectives are displayed next to the portlet.
